Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have launched on PlayStation 4 and 5, with a significant price discrepancy between PlayStation and Xbox versions that has angered fans. Developer Treyarch announced the ports last month, and they are now available, offering single-player, multiplayer, and Zombies modes but no graphical upgrades or included DLC.
Pricing Breakdown
Each game costs £34.99 on the PlayStation Store, with season passes for DLC priced at £25.99 each. Buying both games and all DLC totals £121.96. However, PS Plus members receive a 50% discount on the games until August 6, reducing each to £17.49, and a 67% discount on season passes, bringing them to £8.57 each. The original Xbox versions, available via backward compatibility on Xbox Series X/S, cost the same base price but lack these discounts.
Fan Reactions
Fans expressed frustration on social media. One X user wrote, 'Doing this for games that are almost 20 years old is crazy but not surprising given the fandom. I’m honestly impressed!' Another said, '$40 each for 15 year old ports is diabolical. Yeah I know it's Black Ops but c'mon son.' A third user called the Black Ops 2 port a 'RIP OFF,' noting the base price of $40 does not include DLC.
No Switch Version Planned
According to Call of Duty site CharlieIntel, a Nintendo Switch version is not planned, though this could change. However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, 2026, alongside other platforms.
