Aldi has announced ambitious plans to launch 16 new outlets across the UK over the coming months, including four in London. The German-based retail chain, which currently operates more than 1,080 stores throughout the UK, is pressing forward with its expansion to further establish its presence across the country.
New stores in London and beyond
The discount grocer revealed the locations of 16 new supermarket sites on Tuesday. London shoppers will benefit from new branches in Watford, Hoxton, Orpington, and Marble Arch. Other notable openings include Hattersley in Greater Manchester, Balsall Common in the West Midlands, Newport on the Isle of Wight, and Ashford in Kent.
Investment and growth strategy
These developments form part of Aldi's broader long-term ambition to expand to 1,500 stores across the UK. In January, the retailer confirmed its intention to launch approximately 40 new stores in 2026, in keeping with its sustained growth strategy. The latest wave of openings follows the recent launch of its newest store at Salford Quays, with the supermarket committing a substantial £370 million investment in new stores this year.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "At Aldi, we're committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK. Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi's unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues."
