London's newest outdoor swimming destination, Sea Lanes Canary Wharf, officially opened to the public on Friday, June 19. The 50-metre-long, 12-metre-wide natural water pool is the first of its kind in the capital, featuring six lanes, saunas powered by 100% renewable energy, and a clubhouse.
Unique Features of the Lido
The pool is fed directly with freshwater from the dock and remains unheated, offering an authentic open-water swimming experience. Water quality is regularly tested and is completely separate from the River Thames, ensuring a clean and safe environment for swimmers.
A Perfect Opening Day
Swimmers took their first laps on one of the hottest days of the month, enjoying the sunshine. Photos captured the scene, showing swimmers in swimwear and wetsuits alike, taking advantage of the new facility.
Benefits of Cold Water Swimming
Joe McNulty, Sea Lanes Director, highlighted the growing demand for outdoor swimming facilities. He stated that Sea Lanes Canary Wharf provides the freedom of open water swimming with the safety and structure of a pool, helping swimmers of all abilities build confidence. He also noted the physical and mental wellbeing benefits associated with cold water swimming.
