Transport for London (TfL) has announced a series of weekend closures affecting the London Underground, London Overground, and most of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20. The DLR suspension is primarily due to testing of the new fleet of trains, while other closures are for track work, station refurbishment, and maintenance.
District and Piccadilly line partial closures
Barons Court station on both the District and Piccadilly lines will be closed from Friday, September 18, to Sunday, September 20, while the ticket hall is refurbished. On Friday, passengers are advised to use nearby West Kensington on the District line, or change at Earl's Court or Hammersmith for the Piccadilly line if necessary.
On Saturday and Sunday, no District line trains will run between Earl's Court and both Ealing Broadway and Richmond due to track work. Affected passengers can use alternative Tube or Mildmay line services, or local and replacement bus routes.
On the Piccadilly line, no service will operate between Hyde Park Corner and Acton Town on Saturday and Sunday, including during Friday and Saturday Night Tube. Passengers are advised to use Tube services, local or replacement buses, or the Elizabeth line to reach Heathrow.
London Overground and DLR suspensions
On the London Overground, the Lioness line will have no service between Queen's Park and Willesden Junction until 9:15am on Sunday, September 20. A reduced service will also run between Euston and Willesden Junction until 4:15pm, with trains every half an hour.
The Weaver line will shut between Hackney Downs and both Cheshunt and Enfield Town on Saturday and Sunday due to maintenance work. Replacement buses will operate, and fans attending Tottenham Hotspur's match against Aston Villa are advised to use the Victoria line to Seven Sisters or Tottenham Hale, as White Hart Lane station is closed.
On the Windrush line, trains will terminate at Battersea Park instead of Clapham Junction after 11:30pm on Saturday and all day Sunday. Passengers can use Southern Railway trains to reach Clapham Junction. On Sunday, no trains will run between Sydenham and West Croydon until 8am.
DLR closures and new train testing
Most of the DLR will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday while the new fleet of trains is tested. No service will run between Bank and Lewisham, between Tower Gateway and Canning Town, and between Canary Wharf and Stratford. Affected passengers should use Tube, Windrush line, or Elizabeth line services, or local bus routes.
TfL has already introduced a few of the new trains on the route between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal, with plans for the 54-strong fleet to eventually cover the full DLR network.
