Charity Dingle's (Emma Atkins) fate now rests with a jury after police dismissed Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) revised statement, leaving Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) stunned in the latest Emmerdale episode.
Sarah, who had initially accused Charity of murdering Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) in cold blood, later attempted to retract her claim, admitting she had lied to teach her grandmother a lesson. Despite this, the police did not believe her, meaning the case will proceed to trial.
Sarah's confession fails to sway police
Viewers have watched Sarah grapple with the revelation that baby Leyla is Charity and Ross Barton's (Michael Parr) biological child. In a bid to punish Charity, Sarah went to the police, claiming Charity had killed Dr Todd. Charity had previously taken the blame to protect Sarah, the real culprit, asserting she killed the rapist in self-defence.
After significant intervention, Sarah changed her story once more, insisting Charity was innocent. However, the authorities remained unconvinced, leaving the decision to a jury.

The long-awaited confrontation between Kim Tate (Claire King) and Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) is nearly upon us, with the Home Farm legends having a hostile encounter in the village. Sadie subsequently visits Cain (Jeff Hordley), demanding the money he stole from her two decades ago. Cain rejects the demand until Sadie drops a massive bombshell.
Joe (Ned Porteous) relents and allows Clemmie and Lucas to attend Dawn's (Olivia Bromley) funeral with Billy (Jay Kontzle), but he has a trick up his sleeve.
