American skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin delivered another commanding performance on Tuesday night, securing victory in the World Cup slalom at Flachau and leading a historic one-two finish for the United States with teammate Paula Moltzan.
Dominant Display Seals Sixth Slalom Win
Shiffrin, who posted the fastest time in the opening run, maintained her composure under the floodlights to triumph by a margin of 0.41 seconds. This marks her sixth slalom victory in just seven races this World Cup season, further cementing her stranglehold on the discipline. The win is also her record-extending 107th career World Cup victory, with an incredible 70 of those coming in slalom. Notably, this was her sixth career win on the challenging Flachau course in Austria.
Moltzan Secures Memorable Podium Finish
The night belonged as much to Paula Moltzan, who produced a stellar second run to clinch second place and complete the American podium lockout. Still chasing her maiden World Cup win, Moltzan's performance underscores her emergence as one of the world's most consistent technical skiers this season. Her strong result builds crucial momentum ahead of next month's Winter Games.
Austria's Katharina Truppe finished third, 0.65 seconds behind Shiffrin, after holding her position from the first run. The podium saw a shake-up, however, as Switzerland's Camille Rast—the recent winner who ended Shiffrin's streak—made an error late in her first run and finished off the pace.
Crystal Globe in Sight Before Milano Cortina
With only one slalom race remaining before the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics open on 6 February, Shiffrin is now on the brink of securing another slalom crystal globe. The season-long title will be hers if she wins the final race and Camille Rast finishes outside the top 14.
Moltzan, whose career-best results include four second and four third-place finishes, heads to the Games with growing confidence, bolstered by a giant slalom bronze medal from last season's world championships.
