Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty has publicly praised his father-in-law, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, as a significant source of inspiration as he sets his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The 31-year-old athlete, who recently married Ramsay's daughter Holly in December 2025, opened up about this influential relationship during an interview with BBC Breakfast, highlighting how Ramsay's work ethic and mindset guide his own athletic journey.
From Doubt to Determination: Peaty's Olympic Comeback
Peaty's path to the 2028 Games has been marked by moments of uncertainty. He nearly retired from swimming just before the 2024 Paris Olympics and again immediately after the competition. However, his resolve solidified when the 50m breaststroke event was added to the 2028 schedule, prompting him to confirm his participation. Currently competing at the British Championships this week, Peaty acknowledged that the upcoming two years will present immense challenges, describing them as "the hardest of my career."
Ramsay's Influence: A Game-Changer in Peaty's Career
In discussing his preparation, Peaty emphasized the valuable guidance he receives from Gordon Ramsay, whom he finds "very inspiring." He noted that while Ramsay's world of business and culinary enterprises differs from competitive sports, the underlying principles of hard work and resilience are universally applicable. "I take a lot of guidance. I look up to him a lot," Peaty stated. "In terms of sport, he knows the game is the game, that it doesn't lie. But it will humble you and you've got to work hard for those results. I know that whatever I learned through sport, those are the skills I can take into the rest of my life as well."
Building Toward LA: A Strategic Approach
With three Olympic gold medals and three silver medals already to his name, Peaty is driven by the dream of expanding his collection in Los Angeles. "The Olympics is the one that excites me. That is the one that really gets me out of bed every day, the one I dream of," he expressed. His strategy involves meticulous planning and accumulation of experience over the next two years. "We have to set that path now. Two years out, it is about how much racing and experience can we gather to give the best performance in LA," Peaty explained, underscoring the importance of consistent competition and preparation.
This renewed focus, bolstered by Ramsay's mentorship, positions Peaty for a compelling comeback as he navigates the pressures of elite athletics and personal milestones, all while aiming for Olympic glory in 2028.
