Heartbreaking Emmerdale scenes have revealed the big secret of fan-favourite character Kammy Hadiq, played by Shebz Miah. In the episode dated May 26, which aired on ITVX and YouTube ahead of its ITV1 broadcast, Kammy was seen hiding under a blanket in a freezing cold barn, confirming that he is secretly homeless.
Last week, viewers noticed that Kammy was hiding something around the same time as a mysterious figure began setting fires on Emmerdale Farm. Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) grew suspicious when Kammy arrived late for his shift at the garage, wondering if he had been busy with petrol and a lighter elsewhere. Aaron shared his concerns with Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), noting that no one knows much about the young man. Belle defended Kammy, but Aaron's words lingered in her mind.
In the pub, Belle asked if she could meet Kammy's family, but he made an excuse and quickly left. The episode opened with Belle giving Kammy a homemade card to celebrate Eid. He was touched but became cold when she mentioned visiting his home to meet his relatives. Belle suggested she could just pop her head in, but Kammy snapped at her, telling her to forget the idea. Belle was shocked by this side of her boyfriend.
Later at The Hide, Belle was left alone with Kammy's phone and considered checking it. She knew it was wrong, but alarm bells were ringing. Kammy returned before she could invade his privacy, and Belle quickly claimed she had to get back to work. At Take A Vow, Belle confided in Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), wondering if her worries were justified or stemmed from her traumatic previous relationship. Dawn reassured her, saying she didn't think Kammy was a bad person.
As Belle convinced herself her past was influencing her present, Kammy's secret was revealed to viewers. Inside a barn on Emmerdale Farm, he lit a camping stove to heat baked beans and hid under a blanket, confirming his homelessness. His week worsens when he is caught with a lighter and petrol on Robert Sugden's (Ryan Hawley) land. Robert and Aaron accuse him of being the arsonist, but Kammy reveals he planned to torch his own car. He runs off, appearing guilty, and is later arrested after Aaron calls the police. It remains to be seen if he will tell anyone the truth about his situation.
Shebz Miah reflected on the storyline, saying, 'It's that thing of peeling back the layers and learning more about the character. Kammy is the first Pakistani Muslim we've had on Emmerdale, and that itself is a big thing. I think now we can finally understand what that looks like, especially in British soap. It's not common. I'm excited to tap into that, but also show Kammy as a normal British Bradford lad. The mask comes off, and we see a different version. Fans won't expect it, and it will snowball into other things.'
Stay tuned for more Emmerdale spoilers as this devastating storyline unfolds.
