Bentley Unleashes its Lightest and Most Powerful Continental GT Yet
Bentley has officially pulled the covers off the new Continental GT Supersports, a dramatic new performance flagship that marks a significant departure from the brand's recent trajectory. In an era dominated by electrification and increasingly heavy vehicles, Bentley has boldly bucked the trend, creating what it describes as an old-school hot rod.
The most striking achievement is the car's radical weight loss. Through an extreme diet that involved removing the rear seats and all plug-in hybrid hardware from its powertrain, the Supersports has become the lightest road-going Bentley for 85 years, boasting a kerb weight of under 2,000kg.
Devilish Power and Rear-Wheel Drive Agility
At the heart of this beast is a thoroughly reworked 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Fitted with larger turbochargers and a new crankshaft, it now produces a devilish 666 horsepower and 590lb ft of torque. This immense power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling a blistering 0-62mph sprint of just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 192mph.
However, Bentley's engineers emphasised that their focus was less on outright pace and more on the visceral driving experience. In a major shift, this is the first rear-wheel-drive Continental GT in the model's 20-year history that isn't a dedicated racing version, promising a purer, more engaging drive.
Aerodynamics and Exclusive Production
The Supersports' performance is further sharpened by a comprehensive carbon fibre aero kit, which includes a fixed rear wing. This setup generates more than 300kg of downforce to keep the car planted at high speeds. The car also comes equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes, 22-inch forged Manthey alloy wheels, and an Akrapovic titanium exhaust as standard.
Inside, the focus on weight-saving continues. The cabin features two lightweight bucket seats with 11-way electric adjustment, while the rear is occupied by a carbon fibre tub trimmed in plush leather. Carbon fibre and Dinamica suede are used extensively throughout the interior, which can be fully customised by Bentley's Mulliner bespoke division.
Production of the Continental GT Supersports will be strictly limited to just 500 examples. Orders will open in March 2026, with the first customer cars scheduled to leave Bentley's factory in Crewe, Cheshire, later that year. While final pricing is yet to be confirmed, prospective owners should budget at least £300,000 for one of these exclusive machines.
