World Cup 2026: France v Sweden, Mexico v Ecuador, Côte d'Ivoire v Norway on Tuesday
World Cup last 32: France v Sweden, Mexico v Ecuador, Côte d'Ivoire v Norway

The World Cup round of 32 continues on Tuesday with three matches featuring co-hosts Mexico, tournament favourites France, and dark horses Norway. Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé, who have combined for eight goals so far, headline the action.

France vs Sweden (5pm ET, New York/New Jersey Stadium)

France have won all three group matches, scoring 10 goals. Their forward line of Mbappé, Ousmane Dembele, and Michael Olise is considered the tournament's most dangerous. However, coach Didier Deschamps must balance the midfield to avoid being top-heavy. Mbappé has recorded two goal contributions in each of his three appearances.

Sweden feature elite forwards Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, but lack depth elsewhere. Isak may play on the left wing to provide structure against France. Graham Potter's side are underdogs but capable of causing an upset.

Mexico vs Ecuador (9pm ET, Estadio Azteca)

Mexico are one of three teams with a perfect group-stage record. Playing at home in front of their fans at Estadio Azteca could be decisive for Javier Aguirre's team. El Tri have reached the last 16 in eight of the last nine World Cups.

Ecuador secured their spot by coming from behind to beat Germany in their final group game. Coach Sebastian Beccacece's side rely on defensive strength and the midfield prowess of Moises Caicedo, who is a key two-way operator. Ecuador have never won a World Cup knockout match.

Côte d'Ivoire vs Norway (1pm ET, Dallas Stadium)

Côte d'Ivoire have reached the knockout rounds for the first time. Their formidable forward line has scored in all three group matches. Teenager Yan Diomande has been a breakout star, creating 10+ chances and completing 10+ dribbles in three games.

Norway rested key players in their final group match, so Haaland, Martin Odegaard, and others are fresh. They are among the tournament's best in transition and have lived up to their dark horse billing. Coach Stale Solbakken will rely on quick counter-attacks.
