Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of Rob Edwards as their new head coach, as the struggling Premier League club attempts to reverse a disastrous start to the season.
A New Era at Molineux
The club announced on November 12, 2025, that Edwards has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal to take charge, marking his fourth association with the Old Gold. He arrives after the dismissal of Vítor Pereira, who was sacked following a torrid run of form.
Under Pereira, Wolves managed just two draws from their opening 10 games, suffering defeats in the other eight matches. This poor form has left the team entrenched in the relegation zone, creating an urgent need for a change in leadership.
Edwards' Return and Track Record
Rob Edwards is no stranger to the club, having first joined as a player in 2004. The Telford-born defender made 111 appearances for Wolves over four seasons, most notably under manager Mick McCarthy.
Since moving into management, Edwards has built an impressive reputation. He earned promotions with Forest Green Rovers and Luton Town, famously guiding the latter to the Premier League. He leaves his role at Middlesbrough, where he had made a positive start to the current Championship season, to seize the opportunity at Molineux.
The Relegation Battle Heats Up
Edwards' first test will be a Premier League home clash against Crystal Palace in just over a week. He will have a limited time on the training ground with his full squad, as several players are currently on international duty.
The managerial change comes at a critical juncture in the season. One of Wolves' direct relegation rivals, West Ham United, currently sit eight points above them in the table after winning their last two matches. The two teams are scheduled to meet on January 3 in a fixture that could have huge implications for the survival battle.
Wolves Chairman Jeff Shi expressed his confidence in the appointment, stating: "We need to refresh the whole club with a new coach’s philosophy, bringing his own identity and ideas, and we can build on that. We are at a new chapter for the club and Rob will be a key piece of that."
