Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos has publicly referenced the past exploits of Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi at Charlton Athletic and Sheffield United, offering a cryptic response to growing speculation linking the player with a move to the Championship club.
Glasner's First-Team Snub Sparks Loan Move
The 23-year-old Rak-Sakyi has recently returned to Selhurst Park after a loan spell with Turkish side Caykur Rizespor, where he scored four goals in 13 appearances. Despite Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner expressing concerns over squad depth, the Austrian is not expected to integrate the academy graduate into his first-team plans, paving the way for another loan departure this January.
Rak-Sakyi, who has made only 10 goalless senior appearances for Palace, is now a target for several EFL sides. When questioned about the rumours ahead of Swansea's weekend fixture, Matos gave a telling reply that highlighted the player's previous success in the Football League.
Matos Praises Rak-Sakyi's EFL Pedigree
"Rak-Sakyi is a good player of course," Matos stated. "He's someone that had the impact last season with Sheffield United, with Charlton before as well, so of course he's someone really interesting. But yeah, he's one of the names that we keep seeing and monitoring, let's see what will be the next."
The Swans' boss added a note of caution, confirming the interest was not yet a done deal: "We are looking at a lot of players at the moment if we believe that's the right profile to have in the squad. Rak-Sakyi has a lot of things we like, that's good, but of course it's a rumour at the moment so it's nothing that I can confirm."
A History of Impressing in the Championship
Matos's namecheck of Charlton and Sheffield United was a direct nod to Rak-Sakyi's productive loan spells. His most impressive campaign came in the 2022/23 season with Charlton Athletic, where he became a key figure at The Valley.
During that season, the winger made 49 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing nine assists. His debut prompted high praise from then-Addicks manager Ben Garner, who highlighted his exceptional balance and tactical understanding.
Following that successful stint, he moved to Sheffield United for the 2023/24 campaign, further proving his capability at Championship level. His form has previously attracted attention from clubs including QPR, Leeds United, Hull City, and Watford.
With the January transfer window open, Swansea City appear to be leading the chase for a player whose proven track record in the second tier makes him a potentially astute short-term signing for their promotion ambitions.
