Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling and his family have been left shaken but unharmed after masked intruders broke into their Berkshire home last Saturday. The England international was present with his long-term partner Paige Milian and their children when the attempted burglary occurred, marking the third time in just seven years that Sterling's properties have been targeted.
Disturbed Burglars Flee Empty-Handed
According to reports, the would-be thieves were disturbed during the break-in and fled before managing to steal any items from the footballer's residence. Thames Valley Police have confirmed they have launched a full investigation into the incident, which took place while the entire family was at home.
A spokesperson for Sterling provided a statement via The Guardian, confirming: "We can confirm that Raheem Sterling was the victim of a home break-in this weekend. We can also confirm that he and his children were present at home at the time."
The statement continued, emphasising the emotional impact of the violation: "Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe. We ask that the privacy of Raheem and his loved ones be respected at this challenging time."
Pattern of Security Concerns for Football Star
This latest incident continues a worrying pattern for the 30-year-old footballer, who has now experienced three separate burglary attempts at his properties within seven years. Previous incidents occurred at his former homes in Surrey and Cheshire, highlighting the persistent security risks facing high-profile footballers.
Chelsea Football Club has confirmed they are aware of the situation and are providing support to their player during this difficult period. Sterling, who moved to Chelsea from Manchester City three years ago, is currently under contract at Stamford Bridge until summer 2027.
This isn't the first time a burglary has disrupted Sterling's professional commitments. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Sterling had to temporarily leave England's camp after burglars targeted his home. Former England manager Gareth Southgate addressed the situation at the time, stating: "He's going home, yeah. I really don't know if he will return. At the moment it's a situation that he needs time with his family to deal with and I don't want to put him under any pressure with that."
Southgate added words that now seem particularly poignant: "Sometimes football isn't the most important thing and families should come first." Sterling did eventually return to Qatar in time for England's quarter-final defeat to France.
Thames Valley Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. A police spokesperson said: "Officers are conducting a thorough investigation. We ask anyone with information, or if they saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously, to contact police."
