Son Heung-min has publicly addressed and dismissed growing speculation about a sensational loan return to Tottenham Hotspur during the Major League Soccer off-season.
Firm Denial of Transfer Rumours
The South Korean football icon, who joined Los Angeles FC in August after a decade with Spurs, stated unequivocally that he has no intention of leaving his new club on a temporary deal. Speaking to TV Chosun, Son expressed discomfort with the rumours, saying they could cause confusion among fans and show disrespect towards LAFC.
"My belief and mindset have always been that giving my all to the team I am playing for is most important," Son declared. "The rumours are not true. I have never once discussed moving to another team during the winter."
Impresssive Start in American Football
The 33-year-old forward has made a spectacular start to his American career, scoring 10 goals in just 12 appearances for Los Angeles FC. His contributions have been instrumental in driving his team into the MLS Cup playoff Conference semi-finals.
While the MLS season concludes in December, creating a window for star players to seek short-term moves to Europe – following in the footsteps of David Beckham, Thierry Henry, and Landon Donovan – Son has committed to remaining in Los Angeles throughout the break.
World Cup Preparation Takes Priority
Son revealed that his primary focus during the winter break will be on rest and preparation for the 2026 World Cup, for which South Korea has already qualified. He emphasised the importance of avoiding unnecessary risks that could jeopardise his tournament readiness.
"I am focusing on recharging during the winter and preparing for the World Cup," Son explained. "I want to create the best possible condition to prepare for the World Cup. I could get injured. Devoting everything to the team I am with is respect for my mental health, physical health, and the team's fans."
Despite links to former club Tottenham, as well as European giants AC Milan and Barcelona, the Korean captain's message was clear: he remains fully dedicated to LAFC and hopes the loan speculation does not resurface.
