Bayern Legend Backs Return for Former Academy Star

Bastian Schweinsteiger, the revered former Germany international, has publicly advised his old club Bayern Munich to pursue a deal for VfB Stuttgart's highly-rated defensive midfielder Angelo Stiller. The 24-year-old, who is also a confirmed transfer target for Manchester United, could command a fee in the region of €50 million (£44 million).

From Bayern Prospect to Bundesliga Star

Stiller's footballing journey is deeply intertwined with Bayern Munich. He progressed through the club's esteemed academy and featured prominently for their reserve team, making 50 appearances across two seasons. His first taste of senior football with Bayern came during the 2020/21 campaign, with substitute appearances in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and Lokomotiv Moscow, and a outing in the German Cup.

Despite this promise, a clear path to the Bundesliga first-team failed to materialise. This led Stiller to make a pivotal career move to Hoffenheim in 2021, where his talents truly began to flourish. His impressive performances there earned him a transfer to Stuttgart, where he has since cemented his status as one of the most sought-after talents in German football.

His rise has been recognised at international level, with Stiller now a full German international, having been capped five times by the national team.

A Man in Demand: The Transfer Battle Heats Up

Stiller's excellent form has not gone unnoticed across Europe. Recent reports have strongly linked him with a potential blockbuster move, with Manchester United and Real Madrid both credited with a serious interest.

It is understood that Manchester United have placed Stiller on a seven-man shortlist of potential central midfield reinforcements, which also includes names like Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba.

However, the prospect of a return to Bavaria now seems a genuine possibility, especially with the vocal support of a club legend. Speaking at an event for the Kings League, Schweinsteiger explicitly endorsed the move, stating, 'Angelo is a very interesting player. I would very much like to see him back at Bayern Munich.'

Any deal would represent a significant financial outlay. According to Sky Deutschland, Stuttgart value their star midfielder at around €50 million (£44m). This substantial sum would make him the second-most expensive departure in the club's entire history.

Complicating any potential transfer is Stiller's contract situation; he is tied to Stuttgart until June 2028, giving the club a strong negotiating position.

Looking further ahead, the player himself has admitted to ambitions beyond the Bundesliga. In a recent interview with Bild, Stiller revealed, 'I'm definitely drawn to playing abroad at some point... At the end of my career, I absolutely want to play in the USA, in the MLS. This plan, this goal, is 100 per cent certain.'
