Football pundit Paul Merson has delivered a stark warning ahead of this weekend's blockbuster London derby, claiming a victory for Arsenal at Stamford Bridge would effectively end the Premier League title race.

The Gunners travel to face Chelsea this Sunday riding a nine-match unbeaten streak in the top flight and holding an imperious six-point lead over their nearest rivals. After finishing as runners-up for three consecutive seasons, Mikel Arteta's side have firmly established themselves as the team to beat, 22 years after their last title win under Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal's formidable defence has been the foundation of their success, boasting the best defensive record across Europe's top five leagues this season. Their campaign has seen just one defeat - a 1-0 loss to Liverpool in August - from their opening 12 matches.
Confidence will be sky-high in the Arsenal camp following their outstanding midweek Champions League victory over Bayern Munich, a team they hadn't beaten in over a decade. However, Chelsea also made a statement in Europe, sweeping aside Barcelona in the capital just 24 hours earlier.

"If Arsenal win, the title race is over!" Merson declared emphatically. "I expect Manchester City to win this weekend, but even then, a win for Arsenal puts everything to bed."
The former Arsenal midfielder, who is a lifelong Chelsea fan, acknowledged both teams' impressive European performances but expressed concerns about Chelsea's consistency. "I saw Chelsea against Barcelona and they completely blew Hansi Flick's team away even before the red card to Ronald Araujo. Arsenal also beat Bayern Munich quite comfortably, with their second half performance being mind-blowing!"
Merson believes the pressure dynamics favour Arsenal in this encounter. "I don't think Enzo Maresca needs to win this game. His objective is to finish in the top four and have a cup run this season. If Chelsea win this game, they automatically become title contenders. Then the expectations from this team changes and I'm not sure it will suit them."
