The club aims to have clarity on the dugout situation imminently, following the dismissal of previous boss Ruben Amorim. Former midfielder Darren Fletcher has been in temporary control, taking charge for the first time in a 2-2 Premier League draw away at Burnley in midweek.
While Fletcher has reportedly impressed the Old Trafford hierarchy during his caretaker stint, the club is actively considering other candidates with strong United connections. Fletcher will lead the side for their FA Cup third-round clash against Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Speaking ahead of the match, the 41-year-old Scot revealed he has had no direct contact with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, dealing instead with football executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.
"I've been focusing on the job in hand. There have been no thoughts from me on my future," Fletcher stated. He emphasised his intention to lean on the club's famed youth system during his tenure. "Historically this club is built around the academy," he said, highlighting talents like Shea Lacey. "We have to let them learn, educate them, help them, understand they will make mistakes."
