Liverpool Eye Free Transfer for Ex-Arsenal Star Serge Gnabry
Liverpool target former Arsenal star Serge Gnabry

Liverpool are plotting a sensational move for former Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry as the Reds look to solve their attacking woes without another massive financial outlay.

Liverpool's Struggling Title Defence

Arne Slot's side find themselves in a concerning position, sitting eighth in the Premier League table after 11 games and already eight points behind leaders Arsenal. This disappointing start comes despite the club spending a staggering £420 million during the summer transfer window.

While defensive issues have drawn significant attention, Liverpool's attack has also underperformed dramatically. The Reds have scored fewer goals than their traditional 'big six' rivals this season, with new signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz failing to impress.

The situation has been compounded by Mohamed Salah's significant dip in form and the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, which is proving costly for Liverpool's offensive capabilities.

Gnabry Emerges as Perfect Solution

According to German publication BILD, Liverpool and Juventus are among the European giants monitoring Serge Gnabry's contract situation at Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old German international will be available on a free transfer next summer when his current deal expires.

Talks have reportedly been held about extending Gnabry's stay at the Allianz Arena, but Bayern are insisting the player reduce his substantial salary, believed to be worth over £300,000 per week.

If no new agreement is reached by January 1, Liverpool and other clubs outside Germany can begin formal negotiations with Gnabry about a summer move.

From Arsenal Reject to Bayern Star

Gnabry brings previous Premier League experience from his five years at Arsenal, though his time in North London was largely underwhelming. He made just 18 appearances under Arsène Wenger and endured a notoriously unsuccessful loan spell at West Brom.

Then-Baggies manager Tony Pulis famously claimed Gnabry was 'not at the required level' to play for West Brom, a assessment that proved spectacularly misguided.

Since joining Bayern Munich in 2017, Gnabry has developed into an elite forward, playing a crucial role in their treble-winning 2019/20 campaign. His Bayern career statistics are impressive: 300 appearances, 97 goals, and 65 assists, alongside multiple trophies including six Bundesliga titles and a Champions League.

This season, the versatile forward has contributed four goals and three assists in nine Bundesliga appearances, though his numbers pale compared to teammates Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and former Red Luis Diaz.

Gnabry isn't the only Bayern player attracting Liverpool's interest, with centre-back Dayot Upamecano also on their radar as his contract similarly expires next summer.

For now, Arne Slot will be focused on immediate concerns, with Liverpool next hosting Nottingham Forest on November 22 as they attempt to revive their faltering campaign.
