Newcastle star Lewis Hall is reportedly 'keen' to complete a transfer move from St James' Park to Manchester United this summer, according to The i Paper. The 21-year-old left-back, who joined Newcastle from Chelsea in 2024 on an initial loan before making the move permanent, has established himself as one of the Premier League's most sought-after defenders.

Hall's versatility, comfortable both at left-back and in midfield, has proven invaluable over three seasons in the north east. He played an integral role in the Magpies' historic Carabao Cup triumph last year. His outstanding form continued into the 2025-26 season, though he missed out on a place in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad for England's World Cup campaign, a decision that surprised many observers.
Manchester United have been tracking Hall's progress for some time, and The i Paper reports that the player is considered of 'real interest' at Old Trafford. Hall himself is perceptive to the idea of joining the Red Devils ahead of the new season, though no talks have taken place regarding a transfer at this stage.
£50m price tag and contract details
While Eddie Howe is desperate to keep hold of Hall, an offer in the region of £50 million could be enough to tempt Newcastle into a sale. Hall's current contract with the Toon is not due to expire until June 2029, giving the club significant leverage in negotiations.
Chelsea, who sold Hall two years ago, have also been tentatively linked with a re-signing, especially after Marc Cucurella's recent exit for Real Madrid. Shaun Wright-Phillips, speaking to Jackpot City Casino, encouraged Chelsea to consider a move for Hall as a replacement for Cucurella.
Wright-Phillips praises Hall
'Cucurella I think is a massive loss,' Wright-Phillips said. 'I think he's a fantastic player, not only from his performance in the World Cup, but since he found his feet at Chelsea. He was at a club that was in many ways in disarray, they didn't know where they were going or what direction they were heading. As soon as they got a manager in place that had a tactical side to him, you saw the good Cucurella they bought. For me, he's just grown since that moment. To lose somebody of that magnitude will, of course, affect that defence. But it's Chelsea, people move on and clubs like that have to figure out a way to find a suitable enough player that does just as good a job.'
Wright-Phillips labelled Hall a 'great' talent and backed him to enjoy a 'superb' career if he stays injury-free. 'Lewis Hall would be a fantastic replacement for Chelsea. I think he's a great player. I was one of the ones who was shocked that he wasn't playing in the World Cup, to be honest with you. But that will give him a little bit of grit between the teeth as well. As long as he can stay fit, he's got a superb career in front of him,' he added.
