Stan Kroenke has broken his customary silence to speak about his emotions after watching Arsenal win the Premier League for the first time in 22 years. The American billionaire, known as 'Silent Stan', was present with his son Josh at Selhurst Park last week as the Gunners secured the title. In a rare interview, Kroenke admitted the moment was deeply moving.
Emotional Triumph
Kroenke told the Wall Street Journal: 'It was extremely emotional. I don't think we can do these things without emotion, without a deep belief.' Despite overseeing championship wins for his other franchises — the Los Angeles Rams, Colorado Avalanche, and Denver Nuggets — the Arsenal owner hinted that this success held special significance.
Addressing Fan Criticism
When asked about his reluctance to communicate with fans, especially during the early years of his ownership, Kroenke said: 'If you're going to let those things deter you when you think you're doing what's right for your organisation and your view of the world, that would never get you very far.'
Champions League Final and Summer Plans
Arsenal face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final this afternoon. Regardless of the result, the club is already planning for the summer transfer window. Josh Kroenke confirmed: 'The business never stops. Right now there are already other teams who are trying to strengthen and come at us for next season.' He added that conversations about improvements on and off the pitch are ongoing, with a World Cup summer adding complexity.
Emirates Stadium Expansion
Ambitious plans extend beyond transfers. Arsenal are exploring the expansion and renovation of the Emirates Stadium, 20 years after its opening. Josh Kroenke said: 'Rich Garlick is leading those conversations on our end right now. We have several new members of the board that are plugged into that... They're putting together a plan right now to renovate the Emirates.' He emphasised preserving the stadium's character while enhancing the matchday experience, drawing on experience from their US facilities.
