Hollyoaks has confirmed the death of Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) after he was shot by an unknown assailant. The character was declared dead in Monday's (July 20) episodes, now available on Channel 4 streaming, with the E4 broadcast scheduled for 7pm.
Darren Osborne discovers the body
Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) stumbled upon Rex's body in the garage, prompting detective Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) to investigate. The news was broken to Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson), who raced to the scene. Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) confirmed the body was Rex's, and Ste broke down in her arms.
Rex's final hours
Rex had been exploring his identity by wearing feminine clothes, which caused tension with Ste. However, the pair reconciled during a dinner date last week, rekindling their romance. Hours later, Rex was called out to the garage late at night and was shot by a mystery character.
Who is responsible?
The question remains: who shot Rex? Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring), recently returned to the village, made it clear she will shed no tears for Rex, a former criminal associate of gangster Dave 'Blue' Williams (Dominic Power). Whether she or someone else is responsible is yet to be revealed.
