England player ratings: Bellingham and Kane star in 3-2 win

Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane starred as ten-man England edged out Mexico 3-2 in a thrilling last-16 clash at the Azteca to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. Bellingham scored twice in two minutes before Kane netted a decisive penalty, securing a famous victory despite Jarell Quansah's red card.

First-half fireworks

After an hour-long delay, England dominated early possession, but Mexico had the first real chance when Raul Jimenez's header was saved by Jordan Pickford in the 15th minute. Anthony Gordon fired tamely at Raul Rangel before Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, heading home Bukayo Saka's pinpoint cross. Moments later, Bellingham struck again, finishing a flowing move to double the lead. Mexico pulled one back through Julian Quinones in a frantic end to the half.

Second-half drama

After the restart, Nico O'Reilly hit the post with a stunning volley. England's task became harder when Quansah was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Jesus Gallardo in the 54th minute. However, Harry Kane restored the two-goal cushion from the penalty spot after Gordon was fouled. Mexico fought back again as Jimenez converted a penalty after Kane fouled Brian Gutierrez, setting up a tense finish. England held on despite being a man down.
