Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) finally confesses to Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) that he caused the car crash that killed Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and Jimmy King (Nick Miles) in upcoming Emmerdale scenes. The confession comes after weeks of guilt and leads to a violent confrontation orchestrated by Joe.
Vinny's confession to Nicola and Joe
Last month, Vinny was video calling Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) while driving, distracted by her distress over Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) ending their relationship. His car drifted onto the wrong side of the road, forcing Jimmy to swerve into the wedding marquee where Joe and Dawn were celebrating. The crash resulted in both Jimmy and Dawn's deaths.
Initially, suspicion fell on Gabby, but she was actually covering for Vinny. He has since confessed to Gabby and Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill). Next week, Vinny seeks to unburden himself further by telling the two people most affected by the tragedy.
In the café, a guilt-ridden Vinny approaches Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) and reveals he is responsible for Jimmy and Dawn's deaths. Nicola is shocked to learn the accident was caused by Vinny using his phone. Later, in the pub, she manipulates Gabby into discussing Dawn. A paranoid Gabby stumbles over her words, leading Nicola to publicly announce that Vinny caused the accident while on the phone to Gabby.
Joe's revenge plot
Meanwhile, Vinny arrives at Home Farm. Fearing for his life, he takes a breath and tells Joe the truth about the crash. Joe reacts with a menacing and intense silence, leaving everyone fearing for Vinny's safety. Their fears are justified.
Bradley Johnson revealed to Metro that Joe quickly escalates his revenge. 'Obviously we see him go to Joe. In his head he's thinking that this is going to be a lot worse than what happened with Nicola. Then we see Joe being Joe', he said. 'He goes "I want to smash his face in. But ultimately I don't want to be the one to blame". So he riles Billy up and tells Billy and ultimately we see Billy beat Vinny up.'
Vinny's guilt and acceptance
Johnson explained Vinny's mindset: 'He expects at least one of them to beat him up. He's had his fair share of being beaten up. It's awful, he's massively guilt ridden. But ultimately he's doing the right thing.'
The confession sets the stage for further fallout, with Joe's vengeful spiral continuing in upcoming episodes. Kim Tate also fears the end of the Tates as Joe's actions become more extreme, and the truth about the crash threatens to explode across the village.
