Coronation Street star Olivia Frances-Brown has revealed the true motives behind her character Jodie Ramsey’s pursuit of David Platt. Jodie, who arrived in Weatherfield seeking revenge on her sister Shona, has become increasingly fixated on Shona’s husband. But is it love or something darker?
Jodie’s Obsession with David
Since her arrival, Jodie has deviated from her original plan of stealing Shona’s family. She has collected a bizarre box of trinkets stolen from neighbors, meddled in others’ affairs, and now set her sights on David. Olivia Frances-Brown explained: ‘She is quite transfixed on David. I think she believes she has fallen in love with him.’ However, she added that Jodie may be more in love with what David represents: a home, safety, and love she never had.
A Complex Sisterly Relationship
Jodie’s feelings for Shona are equally complicated. Despite her actions, Frances-Brown insists Jodie loves her sister. ‘She absolutely loves her. She adores her sister. She idolises her. It’s just that resentment and bitterness.’ The discovery that Shona lied about never receiving a letter from Jodie as a child pushed her over the edge, driving her to make a bold play for David.
The Murder Mystery Looms
Jodie’s scheme unfolds on the same night a murderer stalks the cobbles. She is one of five potential victims in Coronation Street’s biggest whodunnit. Frances-Brown shared: ‘I would have been surprised if she wasn’t one of the victims, the way she’s been carrying on!’ Shona finds herself alone in the park after dark, unaware that she is being watched. Is Jodie about to meet her end?
Frances-Brown remained tight-lipped about Jodie’s fate but hinted: ‘It’s been a rollercoaster. I really don’t want it to end – but it might have ended!’
