Como president Mirwan Suwarso has issued a warning to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa over their reported interest in midfielder Martin Baturina, stating that while the club is open to offers, they are not afraid to reject bids.
Baturina's rise at Como
Baturina joined Como from Dinamo Zagreb last year for £17 million and has quickly become a key player. The 23-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring eight goals, as Como qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. He has also earned 23 caps for Croatia, including a goal against England in the World Cup group stage. Baturina is under contract at Como until 2030.
Suwarso's transfer warning
Suwarso told CalcioMercato: 'If there's an offer, we'll listen. If we like it, we'll accept, but we're not afraid to refuse. Last summer, we rejected a €60m (£51m) offer for Assane Diao. I can't say from whom. And in the winter, another €40m (£34m) for Jayden Addai.'
An asking price of €80 million (£68m) has been reported for Baturina by Sky Sport's Gianluca DiMarzio, who also notes Bayern Munich's interest.
Baturina's positive view of Como
Despite transfer speculation, Baturina has spoken highly of his time at Como. He told Gazzetta dello Sport: 'Playing in Serie A taught me a lot about discipline, concentration, and consistency. It's a league that demands a lot from a midfielder like me, both tactically and mentally. I think this season has allowed me to grow considerably as a player. The atmosphere was incredible all year, and I believe that spirit, combined with hard work and unity of purpose from the entire club, is what made such an extraordinary season possible.'
Como, owned by Djarum Group and managed by Cesc Fabregas, are keen to keep their squad together as they prepare for their Champions League campaign.
