Call Of Duty 2026 Will Be 'Definitive Modern Warfare' Says Activision
Call Of Duty 2026: 'Definitive Modern Warfare' Confirmed

Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that the next Call Of Duty game will be a Modern Warfare entry, with studio heads Mark Grigsby and Jack O'Hara calling it the 'definitive Modern Warfare' experience. The announcement comes ahead of a full reveal expected next month.

What We Know So Far

It has been known for some time that the 2026 title would follow up 2023's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with the story reportedly set in Korea. Rumors also suggest that the 2027 game will be a brand new sub-franchise from Sledgehammer Games. Now, Infinity Ward has made it official through a statement on social media.

In a post on the Infinity Ward X account, Grigsby and O'Hara wrote: 'We are Infinity Ward. We build visceral, immersive combat experiences that hit different. As a new chapter begins for this studio, we're focused on what defines us: passion, precision, obsession, and an unrelenting drive to make the best entertainment in the industry. Our next game is the result of that mindset.'

The post continued: 'Determined. Bold. Relentless. Built by a team pushing every detail, every system, every moment to its limit. On behalf of everyone at Infinity Ward, we're proud of what we've been building and excited to finally start sharing it with you.'

No Footage Yet

The announcement did not include any screenshots or gameplay footage, which is an unusual precursor. However, as industry trends show, this is now a common approach for major reveals. The full unveiling is expected at either Summer Game Fest on June 5 or the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, though a separate Call Of Duty livestream is also possible.

Pressure to Perform

Call Of Duty is under pressure after last year's Black Ops 7 fell short of launch sales expectations, especially following the massive success of Battlefield 6. Activision issued a rare apology for the game's performance. Given the rigid annual release schedule, major changes to the formula may take years to materialize, putting this year's entry in an awkward position.

If Infinity Ward largely iterates on past glories without meaningful innovation, it may struggle to win back players. However, the studio is confident it can deliver the 'definitive' Modern Warfare experience against the odds. Aside from being a Modern Warfare title, the only other confirmed detail is that the game will not be released on PlayStation 4.

Fans will have to wait for the full reveal to see if Infinity Ward can live up to its promises.
