British tennis suffers worst Wimbledon day this century with 10 defeats
10 Britons lose on worst Wimbledon day for UK tennis

British tennis endured its worst day at Wimbledon this century as all 10 Britons who completed their matches were beaten on Monday. It might have been 11 had the light not faded on Jack Pinnington Jones, who trails Brandon Nakashima by two sets and 4-3.

Dart falls short against Ostapenko

Harriet Dart lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko despite twice leading by a break in the final set. Dart, ranked 152, was called late on Sunday to replace Emma Raducanu on No. 1 Court. She fought back from 4-0 down in the opener, levelled the match, and broke twice in the third set to lead 1-0 and 2-1. However, Ostapenko, who narrowly missed a seeded spot, rallied to close out victory.

“I thought it was an incredible match,” Dart said. “The reality is I was up a break twice, but it’s a long way from the finish line. When you play players of the stature of Jelena, you know there is one or two points in it. Today it felt like luck wasn’t really in my favour.”

Norrie ousted by American college champion

Cam Norrie, the No. 29 seed and a semi-finalist at Wimbledon in 2022, was edged out 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (4) by world No. 143 Michael Zheng. Norrie, who broke just once, struggled with his usual sharpness. Zheng served 21 aces and hit 74 winners. “If I could have had a few more matches leading in, I think I can win this match,” Norrie said. “There were so many small moments in the match that he did really well to go on his side.”
