Dark gym class trend from Dubai could be coming to London
Dark gym class trend from Dubai could hit London

GymNation, the Middle East gym chain, launched Class Dans Le Noir last week, a 45-minute workout held in total darkness to heighten exercisers' senses. The class, which borrows from the global cult phenomenon of dining in the dark, removes vision entirely to force genuine body awareness, according to the company.

What is Dans Le Noir?

Dans Le Noir is a lights-off class that uses headphones to deliver the instructor's voice directly into the ear, alongside an immersive soundtrack that removes all ambient distraction. The format is designed to make participants focus on their own bodies rather than their surroundings.

Rory McEntee, Chief Marketing Officer at GymNation, said: "What goes on inside those four walls is something we're deliberately not going to over-explain - because the whole point is that you have to experience it. It is, genuinely, the best workout you've never seen."

Londoners call for UK launch

McEntee added: "Since launching the class we've even seen Londoners calling for the class to be brought to the UK, hopefully there's a collab with London's very own Dans Le Noir on the horizon." This suggests the company is aware of demand from the UK capital and is open to potential collaboration with the existing Dans Le Noir brand in London.

Class Dans Le Noir will be running across the UAE, KSA and Bahrain at select GymNation locations, marking the first time the concept has been applied to fitness in the region.

Impact and next steps

While no official plans have been confirmed for a London launch, the public call from Londoners and the company's acknowledgment of it indicate that a UK expansion could be considered. The class's success in Dubai will likely determine whether it makes the journey across the Atlantic.
