Cole Palmer breaks silence on World Cup snub, sends message to Tuchel
Palmer breaks silence on World Cup omission

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has opened up on his disappointment at being left out of England's World Cup squad, admitting he believes he could have made a significant impact for the Three Lions in Germany.

The 24-year-old was a key figure for England under Thomas Tuchel during European Championship qualifying and started the final friendly against Japan before the squad was announced. However, a difficult season at club level ultimately cost him a place in the 26-man squad, making him one of several high-profile omissions.

Palmer's anguish at missing tournament

Speaking to The Times, Palmer revealed the pain of watching from afar as England progressed to the last 16. "I'm watching it where I can. I'm enjoying my holidays and doing different things, but when I'm chilling then, yeah, if a game is on I'll watch it," he said.

"Well, of course I do wish I was part of the squad. Every player that plays football wants to be at the World Cup, but it's a decision that I cannot change and a hard one, for whatever reason. But I'm just trying to enjoy the summer off — the first summer I've ever had off."

What Palmer could have offered

England have relied on moments of brilliance from Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham to reach the knockout stages, while wingers Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke have struggled for form. Palmer, who overcame fitness issues late last season, believes he could have eased the burden on the star duo.

"I know what I could have offered, you know — something different to what the manager has picked," Palmer said. "But like I said before, I can't change the decision and I wish everyone all the best."

Carragher among critics of Tuchel's call

Pundits including Jamie Carragher have suggested Tuchel made a costly error by not taking a gamble on Palmer. Asked about those comments, Palmer said: "Yeah, of course it's nice, but I'm not there."

England face Mexico in the round of 16, with Tuchel's side hoping to avoid an early exit. Palmer's absence remains a talking point as the Three Lions seek to end their long wait for a World Cup title.
