Heavyweight boxing star Tyson Fury has publicly shared his condolences following the tragic road accident in Nigeria which claimed the lives of two close friends of his rival, Anthony Joshua.
The Tragic Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The fatal collision occurred on Monday, December 30, 2025, on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Nigeria. The vehicle carrying the former world heavyweight champion and his friends collided with a stationary truck. While Joshua, 36, escaped with minor injuries, he remains under observation in hospital amid concerns his condition may be more serious than initially assessed.
Tragically, the accident proved fatal for two long-time members of Joshua's inner circle: Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Fury Puts Rivalry Aside in Poignant Tribute
Fury, who was slated to face Joshua in a blockbuster 2026 bout, set aside their sporting rivalry to react to the heartbreaking news. Taking to Instagram, the 'Gypsy King' wrote a heartfelt message: 'This is so sad. May God give them a good bed in heaven.'
In a move that added a layer of poignant reflection, Fury also reposted an older interview with Joshua conducted by Boxing King Media. In the clip, Joshua reflects philosophically on life and mortality, saying: 'With the death thing... all of this stuff here, believe it or not, is just a distraction... That's what's guaranteed, is death.'
Remembering Joshua's Fallen Friends
The two victims were integral, behind-the-scenes figures in Anthony Joshua's career.
Latif 'Latz' Ayodele was a personal trainer and a devoted Muslim who had been part of 'AJ's' team since his first world title win against Charles Martin in 2016. In a cruel twist, just hours before the crash, Joshua had shared a joyful video on social media of the pair playing and laughing during a game of table tennis.
Sina Ghami served as Joshua's strength and conditioning coach for over a decade and was the co-founder of London's Evolve Gym. A qualified sports rehabilitator, he was by Joshua's side for iconic moments, including his legendary victory over Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley in 2017.
Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, issued a statement confirming the boxer was 'in a stable condition' in hospital and asked for privacy for the families of the deceased. The boxing community and fans worldwide continue to offer their support during this profoundly difficult time.
