Tottenham full-back Djed Spence is open to a move to Inter Milan as talks between the clubs continue, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 25-year-old has impressed for England at the World Cup, but faces intense competition at Spurs, with Pedro Porro on the right and Destiny Udogie and new signing Andy Robertson on the left.
Inter Milan pursue Spence after Dumfries departure
Inter Milan are in the market for a right-back after Denzel Dumfries left for Real Madrid following five seasons and over 200 appearances for the Serie A champions. An enquiry from Inter saw Tottenham quote an asking price higher than expected, but negotiations are ongoing. Everton are also reportedly exploring a move for the former Middlesbrough defender.
Spence's World Cup performances attract suitors
Spence has earned admirers for his displays off the bench against Croatia, Mexico, and Norway, though he was criticised by England boss Thomas Tuchel and underwhelmed in a start against DR Congo. His pace and defensive ability have led to calls for him to start in the semi-final against Argentina, with some suggesting he is ideal to deal with Lionel Messi. Spence said: 'Listen, I just want to make the country proud, the nation proud, my team proud, the manager proud. When I step on the pitch, I’ll give 110 per cent for this country, I’m just grateful to do my part.'
Tuchel's passion motivates Spence
Regarding Tuchel's vocal instructions during the tournament, Spence added: 'I think it’s just passion. Just psyching me up to go on the pitch and cause trouble, and that’s what I did.' The defender's club future remains uncertain, but a move to Inter could provide regular first-team football.
