Croydon cyclist critical after crash; police error on board

A 39-year-old cyclist remains in a critical condition one week after being struck by a car in Croydon. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no arrests have been made, and the driver is assisting with the investigation.

Crash details

Police were called to the junction of Scarbrook Road and Wandle Road shortly after midnight on Friday, July 10. The cyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains. His next-of-kin have been informed.

The driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

Police error on witness appeal boards

Officers mistakenly put up witness appeal boards in Croydon stating the cyclist had died, referring to a 'fatal collision'. The Met confirmed to MyLondon that this was an error and the boards are being corrected. They are investigating how the mistake occurred.

A police spokesperson said: 'At 12.05am on Friday, July 10, officers were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist at the junction of Scarbrook Road and Wandle Road, Croydon. The cyclist, aged 39, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.'

Appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to call 101, quoting CAD 3789/10JUL26.
