Former Miami Heat teammates Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro were involved in a brief verbal and physical altercation at a practice facility for the NBA's Summer League in Las Vegas on Friday, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The person, who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said Adebayo struck Herro at least once during the encounter.
Trade and Tensions
Herro was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this month in a deal that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat, where he will play alongside Adebayo, the Heat captain. The Heat acknowledged the incident but declined further comment. Herro briefly told the Miami Herald and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, “my only comment is no comment.” Herro attended a Summer League game between the Bucks and Heat; Adebayo was not present.
ESPN first reported the altercation. The source said one factor was that Herro had made critical comments about Adebayo and the three-year, $166 million extension Miami gave him in 2024. Herro reportedly made those comments in direct messages on social media, and screenshots became public.
Young Discusses New Wizards Deal
In other Summer League news, Washington Wizards guard Trae Young addressed his $212 million, four-year deal. Young, a four-time All-Star, averaged 17.9 points in 15 games last season due to injuries. He said, “I’m a people’s person... for me, just being around here [for] the few months that I was after I got traded, it just felt like this could be my next home.” Young added, “I don’t really care about what other people think... it’s all irrelevant to me.”
Union Vows Fight Against Second Apron
Newly installed NBPA executive director David Kelly criticized the second apron, saying, “We are not fans of the second apron... in the future, we will have a much more unified union, and we will do a better job of fighting it back.” Kelly responded to comments by Kyle Kuzma, who called the apron a hard cap. Kelly said, “We do not need anyone who is equal to the NBA... we need people who will fight for us.” The current CBA runs through at least the 2028-29 season.
