Jivyan Dhruva, a seven-year-old from West London, has achieved a grade 8 in his maths GCSE, scoring 196 out of 240 in an exam typically taken by students around the age of 16. The result was officially released on GCSE Results Day, August 20, 2026.
Early exam success and preparation for A-levels
Jivyan took the exam in May 2026 and is now preparing for A-levels in maths and further maths next year. His father, Dhruva Katta, 36, an AI engineer, said: 'Jivyan is very excited! We are very proud – he's already preparing for his A-levels in maths and further maths next year! We suggested he cool down, but he doesn't want to.'
According to Dhruva, Jivyan attended regular year two primary school until February 2026, when he became 'too bored' and requested to be homeschooled instead. Despite studying mathematics far beyond his age, Dhruva described Jivyan as a funny and energetic seven-year-old who enjoys chess, football, and dance alongside maths.
Local chess tournaments and a bright future
Dhruva added: 'Jivyan wins all the local chess tournaments too! He's got a bright future ahead of him and always has a plan.' The young academic's achievement comes nine years ahead of the typical GCSE exam schedule, highlighting his advanced mathematical abilities.
