London's Iconic Art Deco Ibex House to Become 380-Room Hotel with Revived Pub
Ibex House Art Deco Building Converted to Hotel with Pub

London's Iconic Art Deco Office Building to Undergo Major Hotel Conversion

One of the City of London's most striking art deco landmarks, Ibex House, is set for a dramatic transformation. The Grade II-listed building, renowned for its shimmering pale façade and streamline moderne curves, will be converted into a substantial 380-room hotel with a revived historic pub at its heart.

Preserving Architectural Heritage While Creating New Hospitality Destination

The vast H-shaped structure, designed by Fuller, Hall and Foulsham and completed in 1937, has stood as an office building for nearly nine decades. Now, following approval from the City of London authorities, the 250,000 square-foot building will be repurposed into a major hospitality venue while maintaining its architectural integrity.

Hotel developer and operator Dominus, in partnership with investment firm Cheyne Capital JV, acquired Ibex House in December 2025. They have appointed designers Studio Moren to oversee the sensitive conversion project, which will see 90 percent of the building's superstructure preserved alongside the entire substructure remaining untouched.

Comprehensive Facilities and Historic Pub Revival

The redeveloped Ibex House will offer far more than just hotel accommodation. The comprehensive plans include:

  • A 382-room hotel operated by Dominus, known for properties like The Dixon near Tower Bridge
  • A conference centre complete with ballroom facilities
  • A dedicated café and hospitality training academy
  • The revival of The Peacock pub, which closed around 2017

The Peacock pub represents a particularly exciting aspect of the redevelopment. Located at the building's corner where Minories meets Portsoken Street, the establishment will not only reopen but will more than double in size from 2,300 to 5,000 square feet. The expanded pub will incorporate a new speakeasy-style bar and pay tribute to the building's distinctive art deco aesthetic throughout its design.

Prime Location and Target Audience

Situated on the eastern side of the Minories in the City of London, the transformed Ibex House will occupy a prime position that appeals to multiple visitor demographics. The location offers:

  1. Proximity to major tourist attractions including Tower Bridge and the Tower of London
  2. Accessibility for business travellers within the City's financial district
  3. Architectural appeal for design enthusiasts and art deco aficionados

The comprehensive redevelopment project is scheduled for completion by 2028, marking a new chapter for one of London's most remarkable surviving art deco buildings while preserving its architectural legacy for future generations to appreciate.
