One of the largest and most impressive Lego sets in recent years is a 2-in-1 recreation of the White City of Gondor from the Lord of the Rings movies. While there have been few Lord of the Rings Lego sets lately, each release proves worth the wait. With the films now decades old—The Fellowship of the Ring celebrates its 25th anniversary this year—new sets target adults, such as the massive Barad-dûr or the cozy Shire diorama.
Rivendell’s Rival
For years, the Rivendell set has been hailed as the best Lord of the Rings model and one of Lego’s finest designs. Now, it faces competition from an amazing recreation of Minas Tirith, a key location central to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. The set’s ingenuity lies in its dual scales: the front features the enormous cliff from the films, while the back changes scale to accommodate minifigures and reveal the throne room.
Set Details and Minifigures
The set comprises 8,278 pieces and measures 59 cm high, 62 cm wide, and 37 cm deep, requiring a large shelf. It includes 10 minifigures: Gandalf the White, Faramir, Denethor, Peregrin, Aragorn as King Elessar (with his crown), Arwen, and four soldiers of Gondor. Also included is Shadowfax, Gandalf’s legendary horse.
Fans can recreate iconic scenes like Aragorn’s coronation, the orc assault, and Denethor’s dramatic run to leap from the city.
Release and Pricing
Minas Tirith launches June 4 from Lego stores and the Lego website. Lego Insiders (free sign-up) can purchase early on June 1. The price is £579.99, reflecting its size and the Lord of the Rings license. From June 1 to 7, buyers receive a free Grond battering ram set, exclusive to this promotion.
On June 1 at 10 am, the Lego Store in Leicester Square offers a signing session with designer François Zapf. A livestream on May 12 at 5 pm BST features the design team, and Lego Insiders can enter a sweepstake to win a trip to the Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand.
