Southampton Woman Appears in Court Over Alleged Poisoning in Parking Dispute
A 75-year-old woman from Southampton has been charged with poisoning her neighbor using ant killer, following a long-running and bitter dispute over parking and shared driveway access. Sally Beaney appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court this week, facing serious allegations that have shocked the local community.
Charges of Poisoning and Harassment
Beaney is accused of maliciously administering ant killer to her neighbor with intent to injure, aggrieve, or annoy him on October 13, 2025. The poisoning charge is particularly serious and can only be dealt with at crown court level, indicating the gravity of the allegations.
In addition to the poisoning charge, Beaney faces allegations of harassment without violence against the same man between August 6 and November 11, 2025. The harassment reportedly involved a pattern of behavior that made the neighbor's life increasingly difficult over several months.
Escalating Driveway Dispute
The court heard that the conflict centered around shared driveway access between the two properties. According to the prosecution, Beaney repeatedly parked her car to deliberately block access to her neighbor's home and placed various obstacles across their shared driveway.
These obstacles included:
- Multiple plant pots strategically placed to impede access
- Wooden structures erected across the driveway
- Various other objects designed to block the neighbor's path
The situation reportedly escalated further when Beaney allegedly displayed signs near these obstacles accusing her neighbor of trespassing and other wrongdoing. She is also accused of abusing, threatening, or intimidating delivery drivers and service providers attempting to access the neighbor's address.
Alleged Aggressive Behavior
The court proceedings revealed additional disturbing allegations against Beaney. She is accused of making an obscene gesture toward her neighbor and his family, including a child, while they were walking together. This incident reportedly occurred during the period of alleged harassment.
During her court appearance, Beaney spoke only to confirm her identity, offering no plea to the charges at this stage. District Judge Anthony Callaway informed her that the poisoning matter must proceed to Crown Court due to its serious nature.
Legal Proceedings Continue
Judge Callaway granted Beaney unconditional bail to appear at Southampton Crown Court next month. The judge noted that she had likely been informed previously about the necessity of crown court proceedings for the poisoning charge.
The case highlights how neighborhood disputes can escalate to dangerous levels when left unresolved. What began as a disagreement over parking and driveway access has resulted in serious criminal charges that could carry significant penalties if proven.
Local authorities have emphasized the importance of resolving property disputes through proper channels rather than taking matters into one's own hands. The case serves as a cautionary tale about the potential consequences when neighborly conflicts spiral out of control.
Beaney remains on unconditional bail while awaiting her next court appearance. The Crown Court proceedings will determine the outcome of these serious allegations that have brought national attention to what began as a local parking dispute in Southampton.
