Woman Charged with Attempted Murder After Car Hits Pedestrians in London's West End
In a shocking incident in central London, a woman has been charged with attempted murder after a car collided with pedestrians in the early hours of Sunday. The event occurred on Argyll Street in Westminster, a location known for housing the iconic London Palladium theatre.
Details of the Incident and Injuries
According to the Metropolitan Police, the car struck three pedestrians at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. A woman in her 30s sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. A man in his 50s suffered life-changing injuries, while a second woman in her 30s received minor injuries. The police have confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Gabrielle Carrington, a 29-year-old from Broadfield Road, Manchester, has been charged with multiple offenses. These include attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm, drink-driving, and dangerous driving. She has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
David Malone, deputy chief crown prosecutor in London North, emphasized the importance of fair trial proceedings. He stated, "We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendant are active and that she has the right to a fair trial.
