US Congressman Ready to Hear Prince Andrew's Testimony on Jeffrey Epstein
US Representative Suhas Subramanyam has declared his readiness to travel to the United Kingdom to secure testimony from Prince Andrew regarding the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. In an interview with Sky News, the Democratic member of the House Oversight Committee emphasized that Andrew possesses clear knowledge of the events surrounding Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
Flexible Approach to Securing Evidence
Representative Subramanyam outlined a flexible strategy for obtaining Andrew's account, stating that testimony could be conducted remotely or in person, even within the UK. He highlighted the committee's willingness to adapt, noting that only interested members might participate. This approach follows recent meetings with other figures linked to the case, such as the Clintons and Les Wexner.
"He clearly has knowledge," Subramanyam asserted, referring to Andrew's potential insights into Epstein's activities and any subsequent cover-up. However, as a foreign national, Prince Andrew cannot be subpoenaed by US authorities and has previously ignored all requests to testify, while denying any wrongdoing.
Persistent Calls for Accountability
Despite these challenges, Subramanyam remains determined. "I want to still hear from him. The door is still open. We will do it on his terms, and engage on his terms," he explained. The congressman stressed the importance of truthfulness, accusing Andrew of not being truthful so far. This push aligns with broader public demands for justice and accountability, particularly for victims of Epstein's crimes.
Contrasting Impacts of the Scandal
The arrest of Prince Andrew has underscored differing repercussions of the Epstein affair across nations. In the UK, the scandal has affected figures like Andrew and Peter Mandelson, weakening Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer following the resignation of his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney. Conversely, in the US, many individuals named in the Epstein files, especially those from the Trump administration, have faced minimal consequences.
Subramanyam commented on this disparity, noting that the American public and global community seek to ensure governments do not shield the wealthy and powerful from accountability for heinous crimes. The ongoing investigation aims to address these concerns and uphold systemic integrity.
