Trump's Name Stamped on US Culture: From Bills to Battleships

Trump's Signature to Grace New US Dollar Bills in Historic Move

The US Treasury Department has announced a groundbreaking plan to feature President Donald Trump's signature on all new US paper currency, marking a first for a sitting president. Traditionally, dollar bills carry the signatures of the treasury secretary and the treasurer, but this change aims to honor Trump's achievements. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated, "There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country, and President Donald J Trump, than US dollar bills bearing his name." This initiative is part of a broader trend where Trump's name and likeness have been increasingly stamped on American cultural and institutional landmarks.

Renaming of the US Institute of Peace

In December, the Trump administration renamed the US Institute of Peace after the president, following a prolonged struggle for control. The State Department justified the change, calling it the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace to "reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation's history." This renaming occurred nearly nine months after the Department of Government Efficiency took over the non-profit organization, effectively shutting it down. Critics argue this move politicizes a previously neutral institution dedicated to conflict resolution.

Kennedy Center Name Change

Also in December, the Kennedy Center added Trump's name to its title, becoming The Donald J Trump and The John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. This change came after a board of trustees vote, with the center citing Trump's efforts to revitalize the institution. However, opponents, including Democratic lawmakers and historians, contend that only Congress has the authority to alter the name of a congressionally designated memorial. Trump was appointed chair of the Kennedy Center in February 2025, further solidifying his influence.

New Trump-Class Battleships

Trump announced in December that the US Navy will develop a new class of large surface battleships, named the Trump-class, weighing between 30,000 and 40,000 tonnes. He proclaimed these vessels would be part of a "golden fleet" and claimed, "They'll be the fastest, the biggest, and... 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built." Currently in the design phase, the first ship, the USS Defiant, is slated for construction in the early 2030s. It is expected to feature advanced weaponry like hypersonic missiles and rail guns, though some technologies are still in development.

Trump Accounts for Newborns

In January, Trump introduced government-supported investment accounts for babies in the US, dubbed Trump Accounts, under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. He urged American businesses to contribute, stating, "Decades from now, I believe the Trump accounts will be remembered as one of the most transformative policy innovations of all time." The US Treasury will deposit $1,000 into accounts for children born between 2025 and 2028, covering an estimated 25 million families. These accounts are set to launch officially on July 4th this year, promoting pro-family messaging.

These developments highlight a significant expansion of Trump's personal branding across various sectors, from finance and defense to culture and social policy, sparking both support and controversy nationwide.
