Teen Accused of Killing London Airbnb Host After UAE Flight

A teenager has been accused of stabbing a woman to death in her central London home just hours after arriving in the UK and renting a room through Airbnb. Enzo Bettamio, 18, appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday charged with the murder of 27-year-old Kamonnan Thiamphanit, also known as Angela.

Details of the Alleged Attack

Prosecutor Nadeem Holland told the court that Bettamio, a dual Brazilian and Italian national, allegedly killed Ms. Thiamphanit within a 24-hour period in April 2024. The defendant had arrived in the UK on a flight from Los Angeles on April 5, 2024, at age 16, and used the Airbnb app to book a month-long stay at the victim's property on Stanhope Place, near Marble Arch.

On the evening of April 5, Ms. Thiamphanit spent time playing board games with friends. She left them in the early hours of April 6, citing an emergency at her Stanhope Place address. An Uber minicab dropped her off at 4:24 a.m., which was the last confirmed sighting of her alive, according to Mr. Holland.

Discovery of the Body

Approximately 13 hours later, Bettamio allegedly flagged down a black cab on Bayswater Road and asked to be taken to the airport, where he purchased a ticket to Dubai. Friends of Ms. Thiamphanit became worried when they could not reach her and alerted police. Officers discovered her body inside her home on April 8.

Mr. Holland described the scene: "She had sustained multiple stab wounds all over her body. A large silver knife was protruding from the side of her neck." A post-mortem examination concluded that she died from multiple sharp force injuries.

Extradition and Court Proceedings

Bettamio was extradited back to the UK from the United Arab Emirates on April 24, 2026. Upon arrival, he was arrested and taken to Charing Cross police station, where he was charged with murder. At the Old Bailey hearing, Bettamio, of no fixed address, spoke only to confirm his identity before Judge Simon Mayo KC.

The judge set a plea hearing for July 14 and a provisional trial date starting February 1 next year. The defendant was remanded into custody.
