Shia LaBeouf Arrested on Battery Charges During New Orleans Mardi Gras
Shia LaBeouf Arrested on Battery Charges at Mardi Gras

Shia LaBeouf, the actor known for his roles in films like "Megalopolis," was arrested early Tuesday morning in New Orleans on battery charges, allegedly after a series of aggressive incidents during the city's Mardi Gras celebrations. The arrest occurred just as the weekslong carnival festivities were hitting their climax, casting a shadow over the revelry in the French Quarter area.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers were called to the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, adjacent to the French Quarter, at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Reports indicate that LaBeouf was becoming increasingly aggressive at the Royal Street Inn and Bar, leading to a confrontation with staff and patrons.

Escalation and Arrest

Court documents reveal that the bar manager attempted to escort LaBeouf out of the establishment, during which the actor allegedly tried to strike him. After being removed, LaBeouf is accused of punching a male patron who was assisting the manager, then returning to punch a second man in the nose. Bystanders reportedly held LaBeouf down until police arrived, and he was subsequently taken to a hospital before being discharged, arrested, and charged with two counts of simple battery.

LaBeouf is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Tuesday afternoon, coinciding with the peak of Mardi Gras celebrations. A video posted by TMZ, purportedly from early Tuesday morning, shows the actor shirtless and exchanging words with another individual, later being attended to by paramedics.

Pattern of Unruly Behavior

Reports of LaBeouf engaging in disruptive behavior across New Orleans have surfaced for several days prior to the arrest. Robert Skuse, a doorman at Ms Mae's bar, told the Hollywood Reporter that LaBeouf arrived in a "somewhat belligerent state" and attempted to get behind the bar to serve drinks, leading to his removal. Skuse noted that during the mayhem, LaBeouf reportedly did the "Do you know who I am?" bit, highlighting the actor's confrontational demeanor.

Past Struggles and Legal Issues

LaBeouf has openly discussed his battles with sobriety in the past, crediting fellow actors Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin for their support. He attended court-mandated rehabilitation after a 2017 arrest in Savannah, Georgia, an experience that inspired his semi-autobiographical film, "Honey Boy."

In 2020, English singer FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, sued LaBeouf for sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress, alleging a pattern of "relentless" abuse during their relationship from 2018 to 2019. Barnett claimed in a lawsuit and interview with the New York Times that LaBeouf knowingly exposed her to a sexually transmitted infection, attempted to strangle her, and slammed her against a car. LaBeouf has denied all allegations, and the pair reached a settlement in July 2025.

Representatives for Shia LaBeouf did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the recent arrest. The incident adds to the actor's troubled legal history, occurring amidst the vibrant backdrop of New Orleans' iconic Mardi Gras festivities, which draw thousands of revelers annually to the city's streets and bars.
