Reform UK Faces Mounting Pressure to Sever Ties with Controversial Candidate
Reform UK is under intense scrutiny and pressure to cut ties with one of its local election candidates in West London following the discovery of a series of Islamophobic and ableist posts on his social media accounts. The posts, which include a call for mass violence against Muslims, have sparked outrage and demands for immediate action from political opponents and community leaders.
Allegations of Hateful Content Surface
Howard Raymond Dini, who is standing as a candidate for Hillingdon Council in the Ickenham and South Harefield ward in the upcoming May 7 elections, has been implicated in multiple offensive posts on platforms such as Facebook and Threads. One particularly alarming post from December 2025, attributed directly to Mr. Dini's account, advocated for shooting Muslims during their festivals, stating, "It is time to return the gun fire when the Islamists gather on their festival we should go and shoot them and as many as possible it is called an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth."
Additional posts include a reshare declaring "I'm a proud ISLAMAPHOBE" and comments celebrating the death of Palestinians, with one remark saying, "when every f*****g Palestinian is dead." The candidate's accounts also used ableist slurs and told individuals to "f*** off and die," further compounding the severity of the allegations.
Political Reactions and Calls for Accountability
Hillingdon Conservatives have issued a strong statement urging Reform UK to withdraw support for Mr. Dini. A spokesperson emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, stating, "These allegations against Mr. Dini are extremely serious and raise further concerns about Hillingdon Reform's approach to selecting candidates. It is deeply troubling that they continue to support individuals facing such accusations." They called for immediate suspension of his party membership and removal of electoral support.
Danny Beales, the Labour MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, condemned the posts as "disgusting" and "horrifically racist," adding that they are "violent in nature." He stressed, "Reform must withdraw all support from him as a candidate immediately. This shows exactly why Reform cannot be allowed to get anywhere close to running Hillingdon Council."
Reform UK's Response and Candidate's Defense
When contacted by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), Reform UK provided a brief response, with a spokesperson saying, "The party is looking into these allegations." This has raised questions about the party's vetting processes and commitment to upholding ethical standards in candidate selection.
In his defense, Mr. Dini responded to inquiries with dismissive remarks, telling the LDRS reporter, "You must be one of the few that enjoy our country being invaded and with no go areas." He further asserted, "You can threaten me as much as you like almost verging on blackmail but all you will achieve is driving voters in my direction. Thanks for the publicity and by the way everyone is entitled to an opinion even you."
Broader Implications for Community and Politics
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about hate speech and divisive rhetoric in political campaigns, particularly in diverse areas like West London. Community leaders warn that such content undermines social cohesion and promotes intolerance. As the election approaches, the handling of this case will likely impact public trust in political parties and their dedication to fostering inclusive and respectful discourse.
With the local elections just weeks away, the pressure on Reform UK to take decisive action continues to mount, as residents and political figures alike call for a rejection of hate-based politics in favor of unity and integrity in public office.
