Obama Acknowledges Alien Existence While Dismissing Area 51 Myths
Former US President Barack Obama has publicly addressed the question of extraterrestrial life, confirming that aliens are real but debunking the persistent rumor that they are concealed at the secretive Area 51 facility. In a recent interview with Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama responded candidly when asked point-blank about the existence of aliens.
"Uh, they're real, but I haven't seen them," Obama stated. "And they're not being kept in uh what is it? Area 51. There's no underground facility unless there's this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States." His remarks, delivered with a hint of jest, directly challenge the conspiracy theory that the US government has been harboring and studying alien activity at this classified base.
The History and Secrecy of Area 51
Area 51, officially known as Groom Lake or Homey Airport, is a United States Air Force base located in the Nevada desert, operational since 1955 and designated as a Military Operating Area. While never officially declared a secret base, its existence was only publicly confirmed by the CIA in 2013. All research conducted there is classified as Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information, fueling widespread speculation and numerous conspiracy theories, many centered on alien encounters.
In 1995, President Bill Clinton signed an order protecting the area from environmental legislation regarding hazardous waste control, as compliance would require disclosing classified information to unauthorized individuals. This move further entrenched the aura of mystery surrounding the base.
Other US Leaders on UFOs and Aliens
Obama is not the only former US president to speculate, even humorously, about the reality of aliens. In 2019, Donald Trump appeared on Fox News with Tucker Carlson, whose show had previously claimed the US government stored UFO wreckage in a secret location. When asked about his belief in UFOs, Trump responded, "I don't want to get into it too much, but personally I doubt it. You have people that swear by it, right, pilots have come in and they have said ... and these are not pilots that are into that particular world... we have had people saying they have seen things. I'm not a believer, but I guess anything is possible."
Government Reports on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena
The US government has previously released a comprehensive report on documented cases of what it terms "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" (UAP), commonly known as UFOs. This 9-page report reviewed 120 incidents recorded by the US military and government, sending shockwaves through online alien-hunting communities. While Congress received a classified version, the public release of the unclassified report marked the first time the American government fully admitted there are objects in the sky it cannot explain.
This development, coupled with Obama's recent comments, highlights ongoing public and governmental intrigue into extraterrestrial possibilities, even as specific myths like those about Area 51 are dispelled by former leaders.
