Nursery Worker Vincent Chan Admits to 26 New Sexual Offences Including Upskirting
Nursery Worker Pleads Guilty to Upskirting Children

In a deeply disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, a paedophile nursery worker has admitted to a series of heinous sexual offences against young children in a classroom setting. Vincent Chan, aged 45, pleaded guilty to 26 new charges, which include the appalling act of upskirting children as they sat at tables during nursery activities.

Details of the Offences and Court Proceedings

The offences occurred while Chan was employed at the Bright Horizons nursery in West Hampstead, north London. He targeted girls as young as three and four years old, molesting them during naptime and filming the abuse for his own gratification. At Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, it was heard that Chan admitted to ten counts of taking indecent photographs of children, six charges of outraging public decency, one count of sexual assault on a female, and nine counts of voyeurism.

Specific evidence presented in court included 16 images of a schoolgirl taken from under a classroom table, with the camera angled to capture intimate parts of her body. Additionally, Chan possessed 13 images from 2016 showing two unidentified female child victims in similar compromising positions. In a previous admission from June 2017, he confessed to taking three images of a male holding an exposed penis in a classroom and having a video depicting a solo sex act in the same environment.

Discovery and Investigation

Chan was first arrested in June of last year after a colleague reported him for filming a child falling asleep in their food, setting the clip to music, and showing it to others. Initially held on suspicion of neglect and released on bail, he lost his job at the nursery, which has since closed. Despite passing an enhanced DBS check, detectives later seized dozens of digital devices from his home in Finchley, uncovering more than 25,000 indecent images and videos of children, some depicting the most severe forms of abuse.

Police also recovered images showing Chan exposing himself in a classroom in 2017, along with videos believed to be of him performing solo sex acts. The sheer volume of material highlights the prolonged and predatory nature of his crimes.

Sentencing and Response from the Nursery

Vincent Chan is scheduled to be sentenced on February 12 for all 52 offences he has now admitted. A spokesperson for Bright Horizons nursery expressed profound shock and appallment at Chan's actions, stating that his crimes represent a violation of the victims and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by families and colleagues. The organisation emphasised its commitment to supporting the affected children and families during this difficult time, noting that their mission is to protect and nurture young children, with over 8,500 dedicated colleagues working tirelessly in their nurseries.

This case underscores critical issues in safeguarding and vetting processes within childcare settings, raising urgent questions about how such individuals can evade detection. The community and authorities are now grappling with the aftermath, as they seek to ensure justice for the young victims and prevent similar atrocities in the future.
