Man named after found dead in South London home

A man discovered deceased at a residential address in south London on New Year's Day has been formally identified by police.

Police Respond to Welfare Concern

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to an address on Bondway in the Lambeth area at approximately 8pm on 1 January 2026. The attendance followed a report expressing concern for the welfare of a man at the location.

Upon entering the property, police sadly found the body of 41-year-old Kaleem Shaik. The Met confirmed that Mr Shaik was an Indian national. His family, who reside in India, have been informed of his death and are receiving support from specialist officers.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

In connection with the discovery, Daniel Levy, 48, also of Bondway, was arrested on the same day. Following questioning, Levy was subsequently charged with murder.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 3 January, where he was remanded in custody. Levy is next scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey for a hearing on Monday, 5 January 2026.

Investigation Continues with Community Reassurance

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, the senior investigating officer, offered his condolences. "Our thoughts are with Kaleem's family at this very difficult time," he stated.

DCI Clarke also provided an update on the inquiry, noting, "My team is not currently seeking any additional suspects in relation to this tragic incident." Acknowledging the potential impact on local residents, he added, "We understand the concern this will have caused the local community and residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days."

The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Shaik's death remains ongoing.
