Man killed in Brent shooting named as Simon Whyte

Police have publicly identified the man who was shot and killed in Brent last week, as detectives continue their urgent hunt for his killer.

Victim named following fatal shooting

Simon Whyte, aged 55, was gunned down on West End Close in the Stonebridge area. The incident occurred at approximately 9.35pm on Friday, 19 December 2025. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Whyte was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police have now released a photograph of Mr Whyte as part of their appeal for information. Officers are particularly keen to speak to a small group of people who were seen congregating nearby at the time of the shooting.

Forensic search and community concern

Forensic teams conducted a meticulous examination of the area in the aftermath of the killing, searching for evidence that could piece together the events leading to Mr Whyte's death. A local worker described the unsettling atmosphere, revealing he now keeps a pick handle within arm's reach while at work.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, extended his condolences to the victim's family. "Firstly, our thoughts are with Simon’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time," he said. "Enquiries are well underway, and my team is working at pace to determine the circumstances that led to his tragic death."

He acknowledged the alarm such violence causes, stating: "There’s no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and more widely, but we have increased patrols in the area. I’d like to reassure the public that our investigation remains a priority."

Appeal for witnesses after second fatal incident

This was the second homicide in North West London on that Friday, following a separate, unconnected stabbing in Maida Vale. The Met has confirmed it does not believe the two incidents are linked.

DCI John made a direct appeal for assistance: "I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information, including dashcam footage, that will assist us with our enquiries to contact us at the earliest opportunity."

He reiterated the need to hear from the group seen in the vicinity: "We also believe there was a large group of people congregated nearby at the time the incident happened, and we are keen to hear from them."

As of now, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Met on 101, quoting reference CAD 8120/19DEC25. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
