Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a man in his 40s in Newham in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18. Police were called at 3am to St Bartholomew's Road after reports that a man had been shot inside a vehicle. Despite the efforts of officers and medical staff, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Police appeal for witnesses and information
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, leading the investigation, expressed condolences: “Firstly, our thoughts remain with the friends and family of the man who has sadly died.” He acknowledged that the incident would cause concern in the local area and reassured the community that his team is working to determine what happened and trace those responsible.
Whitten added: “Those in the area will continue to see an increased police presence throughout the day while these enquiries continue. We are asking anyone with information, or who may have witnessed anything in the early hours of the morning, to please contact us. Any piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital to our investigation.”
