MAGA Movement Casts Doubt on Trump's 2024 Assassination Attempt
In July 2024, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped death when a gunman opened fire at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident, which resulted in Trump famously pumping his fist and shouting "fight" after a bullet grazed his ear, is now being questioned by an increasing number of MAGA politicians and supporters who suggest it might have been a hoax.
Marjorie Taylor Greene Leads Accusations of Cover-Up
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has emerged as a vocal skeptic, recently accusing Trump's administration of orchestrating a "cover-up" regarding the Butler assassination attempt. This stance persists despite the FBI's definitive conclusion that gunman Thomas Crooks acted alone, fatally shooting attendee Corey Comperatore and wounding two others.
Posting on social media platform X, Greene stated, "I'm not calling the Butler assassination a hoax, but there are a lot of questions that deserve public answers. I'm asking why won't Trump release the information about Matthew Crooks? Did he actually act alone? If not, who is behind him and who helped him? Why the cover-up?"
White House Dismisses Claims as Foolish
The White House has responded sharply, labeling only a "fool" would believe the shooting was fabricated. However, other MAGA allies are joining Greene in questioning the event. Trisha Hope, a January 6 activist, replied to Greene, emphasizing, "Corey Comperatore's wife and daughters deserve to know why Corey, a true American patriot and hero, was murdered in Butler. Trump said repeatedly, 'I am your retribution.' Where is the retribution?"
Victim Corey Comperatore Remembered as Hero
Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old retired firefighter and avid Trump supporter, was killed while shielding his family from bullets during the rally. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro hailed him as a hero, but his widow, Helen, remains troubled. She told the New York Post earlier this year, "All I've wanted this entire time was to sit down with the men who screwed up that day and find out why. Why? Why at that rally? Why at that one in Butler?"
Profile of Gunman Thomas Crooks
Thomas Crooks, a 20-year-old resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was described as an outcast who faced daily bullying in high school, often for wearing hunting outfits. Despite being rejected from his school's rifle team due to poor marksmanship, he was a member of the Clairton Sportsmen's Club. Registered as a Republican, Crooks made a single $15 donation to the liberal ActBlue PAC in January 2021, adding complexity to his political profile.
As these conspiracy theories gain traction among MAGA circles, they challenge official narratives and highlight deepening political divisions in the United States.
