A West London gang member has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for what authorities describe as an "appalling act of violence" after shooting an e-bike rider from his car on a busy road. Hekmat Galmne, 27, of Village Way in Pinner, was convicted of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following the 2024 incident on the A41 in Watford.
Details of the Violent Attack
The attack occurred on July 25, 2024, beginning with a disturbance in a park along Meriden Way around 3:30 PM. Approximately two hours later, the e-bike rider became involved in an altercation with occupants of a BMW on the nearby A41. During this confrontation, a single shot was fired from the vehicle, striking the victim, a man in his 20s, and causing life-threatening injuries. Remarkably, the victim has since made a full recovery from the traumatic event.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Following a thorough investigation, Galmne was identified as the driver of the BMW and the individual who fired the shot. A jury at Reading Crown Court found him guilty on both charges, leading to his sentencing on February 13, 2026. The 28-year prison term reflects the severity of his actions, which took place in broad daylight on a heavily trafficked stretch of road.

Detective Inspector Mark Butler of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit emphasized the reckless nature of the crime. "This was an appalling act of violence committed in broad daylight on a busy stretch of road," Butler stated. "Galmne showed complete disregard for human life and for the safety of the public. It is only through sheer luck that this incident did not result in a fatality or injure innocent members of the public."
Butler added that the sentence sends a clear message: "Violence of this nature will not be tolerated. We will relentlessly pursue anyone who chooses to carry or use a firearm in our communities, and they should expect to face very significant prison time."
